Last Sunday, Nov 19th, famed Arab writer Abdullah Al-Hadlaq was interviewed on Kuwait Alrai TV. It is an rare and incredible interview where a respected Muslim unashamedly defends Israeli culture and values, even calls for an alliance with the Jewish state against Arab nations common enemies. Some of the powerful statements Abdullah Al-Hadlaq made are as follows;
- Israel is a legitimate, “independent sovereign state,”; “Israelis as a people have a right to their land.”
- He stated that in Israel, “there is no occupation. There is a people returning to its promised land.”
- He embarrassed every Arab nation by calling for a rejection of the prominent regional narrative that Israel was “plundered” from the Arabs. He described this as an outdated mentality and stated: “When the State of Israel was established in 1948, there was no state called ‘Palestine,'” he said. “Like it or not, Israel is an independent sovereign state,” Al-Hadlaq said. “Most peace-loving and democratic nations recognize it. The group of states that do not recognize Israel are the countries of tyranny and oppression.”
Al-Hadlaq calls upon Arabs and Muslims alike to recognize that “The history of the Israelites is ancient, predating Islam. Therefore we Muslims must acknowledge that the Israelites have a right to that land, and that they have not plundered it. The people who say they have plundered it, are still thinking in the mentality of the 1950’s and before…”
Al-Hadlaq boldly backed up his position and statements with quotes from Quranic verses. He quoted;
- Quranic Vs 5:21 “Israelites have the right to the Holy Land. Allah assigned that land to them, and they did not plunder it.”
In adding misery to woe among his Arab peers, Al-Hadlaq also spoke with glowing praise of Israel’s “scientific centers and universities, the likes of which even the oldest and most powerful Arab countries lack.”
Perhaps the most revealing and logical argument presented by Al-Hadlaq, was with his reference to Iran – as the great “plunderer” in threat in the region.
“The Persian regime boasts that it has occupied four Arab capitals, and that soon it will occupy a fifth. Has Israel ever said such a thing? Has it boasted about occupying anything? No – because it never occupied anything. Israel came to its own land, whereas the Iranian Persian entity is a plunderer.”
The climax to his interview was how he celebrated Israel’s loyalty to its soldiers, in praise to Israel’s actions in seeking to free soldier Gilad Shalit from Hamas captivity in 2011. He said he wished Arabs could be like the people of Israel “who rallied, down to the very last one, to defend a single Israeli soldier.
“By Allah, if he were a soldier in any Arab country, would his nation, country or head of state rally the same way Israel did? The Arab countries have had thousands of casualties, and nobody cares about them.”
Al-Hadlaq dramatic conclusion to his interview was an open appeal for cooperation with Israel against common enemies such as Iran and its allies. His query before the solution: “Why shouldn’t we live in peaceful coexistence with Israel and cooperate with it?” And his solution – “…a three-way alliance between Israel, the US and Gulf states to… annihilate Hezbollah beyond resurrection.”BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
